Day 1: Deale, MD to Annapolis, MD
Students arrive, have the first sailing lesson, and depart for Annapolis! Each student will partake in the boat’s navigation and maneuvering. After the four hour sail to Annapolis, we will catch a mooring ball in the city harbor. Students will have an opportunity to explore the town’s historic district and the Naval Academy. After dinner on the boat, we will have the first lecture of the discussion series: The Bible: Its Production.
Day 2: Annapolis to St. Michaels, MD
The crew will drop the mooring ball and we’ll make our way over to the Eastern Shore. To starboard, we’ll pass Thomas Point Light, one of the few remaining screw-pile lighthouses. When we arrive in St. Michaels students will explore the streets and history of this quaint town, including the renowned Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. The night will give us time for teaching and discussion.
Day 3: St. Michaels to Friendship, MD
The final full day of sailing will take us to the “Caribbean of the Chesapeake.” We’ll dock at a mini-resort and play an assortment of sports – from volleyball to shuffleboard, from basketball to bocci, from frisbee to tennis. Grilling out with hamburgers and hotdogs will perhaps be a welcomed sight after two days of preparing food on the boat! The day concludes with the final talk of the trip.
Day 4: Friendship to Deale and depart
Alas, the day of good-bye has come. ..trading contact information, giving well-wishes, and making plans for another journey. It’s just a short sail from Friendship to Deale so the students will have ample time to pack, bid farewell, and depart for a bed on stable ground!
